Bai Gopika Shree Ram Mandir

In 1874, Sokribai, the daughter of Shri Balkrishna Govindji and wife of Shri Bala Ananta Senjit, left a will stating that if she died childless, her house should be converted into a temple dedicated to Ram Sita. She instructed that her assets, including money and ornaments, be used for this purpose.

Temple Establishment
Gopikabai installed the idols of Rama, Lakshmana, Sita, and Maruti in the ground floor living room and donated some of her ornaments and utensils for worship. In 1918, she offered the temple to Charities, which accepted the gift along with a government bond of Rs. 2,000.

Renovations and Developments
– In 1919, a new idol of Hanuman was installed after the previous one broke.
– Sa. Balaji Bapuji Rane, the manager, installed electricity in the temple at his own expense.
– In 1953, the temple’s facade was renovated according to a design by architect Shri Govindrao Gajanan Desai, at a cost of Rs. 12,000.

This historical account highlights the key events in the establishment and development of the Ram Sita Temple, showcasing the dedication of Gopikabai and others involved in its creation and maintenance.
